Griffin Baumoel was so buried on the depth chart at inside linebacker that he was assigned a number that was totally not typical for the position. It would be safe to say the rising sophomore will not be wearing No. 83 next season after the way he performed during spring practice.
On Friday, Navy football announced Baumoel as recipient of the Admiral Mack Award that goes to the most improved player during spring camp. That honor, which is voted on by the coaching staff, went to an inside linebacker for the seventh time in the 43 years it has been presented and first since 2009.
