There were many times during the early years that Chris High could have bailed on his commitment to play football at the Naval Academy.
Almost an entire year spent at the Naval Academy Prep School in Newport, Rhode Island, was extremely trying for the happy-go-lucky youngster from Oklahoma City, who felt entirely out of his element.
“When I first got to the prep school, I was like I don’t think this place necessarily fits me,” said High, who remembers routinely calling his mother to announce he wanted to come home.
Cherryetta High, a single mother of three children, was not about to allow her oldest to simply quit on such a life-changing opportunity.
