Navy defensive coordinator Dale Pehrson stayed up late last Saturday night to watch Hawaii play Colorado State. It was a rather unsettling experience.
“I haven’t slept since,” Pehrson said with an uneasy chuckle. “Hawaii looked phenomenal on offense.”
Cole McDonald made a spectacular debut as the starting quarterback in leading Hawaii to an impressive upset of Colorado State, 43-34. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound redshirt sophomore completed 26 of 37 passes for 418 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 96 yards and two more scores.
“I thought the quarterback did a tremendous job. He has a super strong arm and can really run,” Pehrson said.
