Navy has a pair of promising plebes at the quarterback position. Dalen Morris boasts prototypical size and a strong, accurate arm. Reggie Hayes is short in stature, but possesses superb athleticism and an understanding of the triple-option offense.
Hayes beat out Morris in a battle for the third spot on the depth chart during August training camp. Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ivin Jasper said an ability to execute the offense gave Hayes an advantage over his classmate.
Hayes was the starting quarterback at the Naval Academy Prep School during the 2016 season. Practicing daily in the triple-option and playing in live games helped the Louisiana native learn the unique attack.
