Naval Academy commissioning in the age of the coronavirus is vastly different than what everyone associated with the institution has become accustomed.
It has been a time-honored tradition to conduct the graduation ceremony with pomp and circumstance at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. There is always a distinguished guest speaker, sometimes the president of the United States, and the Blue Angels soar overhead as 1,000 newly minted Navy ensigns or Marine Corps second lieutenants toss their midshipman covers high into the air.
Due to precautions brought on by the pandemic, the 2020 commissioning ceremony will forever be remembered as unique.
