College roundup: Navy javelin thrower advances to NCAA finals

NAVY MEN'S TRACK: Navy men's track and field senior Jay Stell placed third in the javelin at the NCAA East Regional on Friday to advance to the NCAA Championship.

Stell advanced to his second NCAA Championship after recording a program record-breaking mark of 235 feet, 6 inches. The Carlsbad, New Mexico, native previously held the program's record in the javelin at 234ft-1in (71.35m), which he tallied at the 2014 East Regional to advance to qualify for his first NCAA Championship appearance.

Stell opened up the day with a throw of 231-1, which placed him second after the first round.
