Colgate mixes it up in new era

This is a new era for Colgate football.

As an inaugural member of the Patriot League, Colgate could not offer athletic scholarships for 22 years.

That changed three years ago when the Patriot League elected to go away from the Ivy League model it had been following. Executive director Carolyn Schlie Femovich announced in February 2012 that athletic merit aid for football would begin with the class entering school in the fall of 2013.

Colgate enjoyed considerable success under the previous format that allowed only for need-based financial aid, capturing seven Patriot League championships under former head coach Dick Biddle.
