Navy’s injury report was pretty long going into Saturday’s game against 20th-ranked Central Florida. It grew in a way head coach Ken Niumatalolo didn’t want to see over the course of the contest.
Starting quarterback Zach Abey was the most obvious and biggest loss – getting knocked out early in the third quarter with a head injury. Niumatalolo said the training staff put the junior standout through the concussion protocol as a precaution.
“You have to protect the kid. Obviously, we wanted to win the game in the worst way and with Zach in there it gives us a chance, but you have to protect the kid.
