Navy's triple-option offense always begins with the fullback dive.
The Midshipmen need to establish the fullback in order to force the defense to respect the interior running game. All the other components of the attack – the quarterback keeper and slotback pitch along with play-action pass – are all more effective if starting fullback Chris Swain and company get going.
Navy's interior offensive line is most responsible for opening holes for the fullback. The center and guards must work in concert to get movement up front if the dive has any chance of gaining positive yards.
The Mids graduated two key cogs of that interior engine in right guard Jake Zuzek and center Tanner Fleming.
