BOCA RATON, FLORIDA — Quarterback Zach Abey and the Navy offense looked shaky for much of the first half of Friday night’s — and Saturday morning’s — season opener at Florida Atlantic.
Abey and his offensive mates got stronger as the game went along and gradually wore down the the overmatched Owls.
Abey rushed for 235 yards and two touchdowns as Navy overcame a slow start to defeat Florida Atlantic, 42-19, in front of 28,481 fans at Howard Schnellenberger Field.
Abey scored on runs of 23 and 40 yards en route to posting the highest rushing total by a Navy player since Keenan Reynolds gained 277 yards against Georgia Southern in 2014.
