A mixed bag for backup QB Garret Lewis

There probably could have been better circumstances for Navy backup quarterback Garret Lewis to get his first taste of extended action.

As it were, though, there he was early in the second half with his team trailing by a touchdown against a nationally-ranked team.

With the Mids facing a 21-14 deficit against 20th-ranked Central Florida four minutes into the second half on Saturday, Lewis replaced starting quarterback Zach Abey, who was forced to leave the game after getting injured on the second play of Navy’s second drive of the third quarter. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound junior out of Buhl, Alabama, was on the field in a game for the first time outside of when he replaced Abey for a play in last week’s loss to Memphis.
