Smith, 31 (2/8/85), helped Bern win the Swiss League title in 2015-16, posting five points (3g-2a) in 17 games. Prior to his one-season stint in Europe, the 6-foot-1, 192-pound Ottawa native played 106 NHL games, posting 20 points (9g-11a), and in 453 AHL games, amassing 346 points (153g-193a) for the New York Islanders (2006-10), Anaheim Ducks (2010-11), Columbus Blue Jackets (2010-11), Tampa Bay Lightning (2011-12), Pittsburgh Penguins (2012-13), and Toronto Maple Leafs (2013-15). He served as captain of the AHL's Toronto Marlies in 2013-14 and 2014-15, and is a 2012 Calder Cup Champion with the Norfolk Admirals, tying for the postseason lead in points (5g-11a) after ranking among the AHL’s Top 10 in points (69) and assists (43) in 2011-12, earning him a spot in the AHL All-Star Classic.
