That didn’t take too long. Two days into the offseason and the Nashville Predators signed their first free agent. Defenseman Yannick Weber was inked to a one-year contract worth $650,000, a small increase over his salary for the previous season.
Weber provides needed depth at the defenseman position. In the 2016-17 season, he played in 72 games earning one goal and seven assists. But scoring is not the reason why the Predators need Weber. As a defensemen, averaging almost 12 minutes of ice time per game, Weber provided physical play. He finished the season with 72 hits and 53 blocks.
