The Nashville Predators were one of the teams that employed an NHL “Gypsy” by the name of Mark Arcobello who created history that season. It was quite a journey that seems to be continuing.
The Smashville part of the story started before the 2014-15 season when GM David Poile offered free agent center Derek Roy and Mike Ribeiro to $1 million, one-year contracts to try and fill their center hole. They were low-risk, low-dollar investments that paid off in Ribeiro’s case.
Not so much in the case of Derek Roy. He played 26 games for the Nashville Predators and scored one goal and nine assists and the Preds waived him.
