The Preds clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs when the Colorado Avalanche lost in regulation to the Washington Capitals 4-2. That means that the Avalanche cannot catch the Predators in the standings, thus leaving them with at least a Wild Card slot.
With four games left to play, the Preds are nine points ahead of the Avs. The Avalanche are not eliminated as they could still catch the Minnesota Wild who lost to Detroit 3-2 and are still four point behind the Predators for the top Wild Card spot.
If the Predators retain that spot they would most likely play the leader of the Pacific Division and stay in that division until the Western Conference finals if they were to advance.
