Prior to joining the Nashville Predators, Johnson started at the University of North Dakota from 1989-1993. He was a three-time Hobey Baker Memorial trophy finalist and is also UND’s all-time leading scorer.
In his four years at North Dakota, Johnson led the Fighting Sioux in scoring in three straight seasons. He finished his career with 272 career points in 155 games, which includes a WCHA-record 198 assists.
Following college, he spent two seasons with the Canadian National Team and won a gold medal with Canada at the 1991 World Junior Championship. He also represented Canada at the 1994 Winter Olympics.
