The San Jose State Spartans held their open scrimmage on Saturday, running about 80 plays in front of fans at Spartan Stadium. The showing that the team put out did not meet the standards that the Spartans had set throughout fall camp, however.
“Fortunately we don’t play tomorrow because we’ve still got a ways to go,” offensive coordinator Al Borges said. “We’ve been really practicing well, but we really haven’t had the carry-over in the scrimmages that we’d like.”
There were some highlights on the day too though. Isaiah Irving stood out as a versatile defensive end, safety Jermaine Kelly had a 36-yard pick-six, Tyler Winston and Billy Freeman stood out as receiving targets and Austin Lopez easily made field goals of 38 and 46 yards.
