The University of New Mexico has hired Bronco Mendenhall as their new head football coach and is expected to be introduced in the near future.
Mendenhall was previously the head coach at Virginia, and prior to that BYU. At those two schools he racked up a 135-81 record and went to 14 bowls in his 17 seasons as a head coach.
Mendenhall is a name Lobo fans should be familiar with, having been the defensive coordinator for Rocky Long’s Lobos from 1998 until 2002. Mendenhall and Long developed the 3-3-5 defense that helped produce the “Loboback,” hybrid position of linebacker and safety.
