The Nevada Wolf Pack (4-0) escaped with their second consecutive nail biter Saturday with a 26-21 victory over San Diego State at Mackay Stadium in Reno, Nev.
Following a near-costly interception by Nevada quarterback Carson Strong, Nevada’s defense held its ground on a goal line stand on its own 26-yard-line with 3:23 remaining.
A six-yard completion to Daniel Bellinger and a one-yard run by Chance Bell gave the Aztecs a first-and-goal at the Wolf Pack 4-yard-line.
The ensuing play sequence?
- 2nd & Goal: A one-yard loss by Greg Bell
- 3rd & Goal: A pass behind to a wide-open Matthews (that would’ve likely resulted in a touchdown)
- 4th & Goal: Johnson throws it away out-of-bounds after nearly getting sacked
Nevada’s defense was spectacular in the second half.
