Former Impact star Ignacio Piatti found himself back on the scoresheet this afternoon, the first time in over a year, since scoring with that rasping drive against Toronto FC in last season’s Canadian Championship final, first-leg.
Piatti was making his first start of the new Argentine season as his San Lorenzo side travelled to Aldosivi’s Estadio Jose Maria Minella, the southernmost ground ever to host a World Cup finals game.
Both sides went into the game unbeaten and sharing top spot in the Championship’s group 5, but San Lorenzo produced an emphatic performance, inspired by their 35-year-old midfielder.
