Kennedy Igboananike scored early in the second half and the Chicago Fire beat the 10-man Philadelphia Union 1-0 on Saturday in blustery conditions.
Philadelphia had a pair of near misses in the first half. C.J. Sapong's header in the 29th minute hit off the crossbar and his redirection in the 41st hit the post.
But the Union's Warren Creavalle received his second yellow card of the game in the 47th minute for a tackle from behind.
And four minutes later, Igboananike settled a ball with pace from Michael Harrington and slid a shot inside the far post.
