The St. John's IceCaps announced on Thursday that Zachary Fucale has been named the team's Man of the Year, which recognizes an individual's contribution to his community. In a season where the reported off-ice exploits of professional hockey players were mainly negative, it is important to celebrate the ones who have proven to be positive roles models and a good citizen in their community.
This is the first year that the Montreal Canadiens have their affiliate in St. John's. Fucale joins a list of recent winners for the Habs farm team, back when they were the Hamilton Bulldogs, that includes Davis Drewiskie (2015), Morgan Ellis (2014), and Kyle Hagel (2013).
