They may not want to give up any more draft picks after trading their first-round pick to the Carolina Hurricanes for them to take Patrick Marleau‘s contract. To acquire a backup, they’ll need to trade a roster player or someone from their AHL team.
Leafs GM Kyle Dubas may try to package two or three ‘spare parts’ for some added cap space. (Nic Petan and Martin Marincin were put on waivers after the article was published)
