After the Montreal Canadiens took the harsh move of buying out veteran P.A. Parenteau, they have $6,641,667 in cap space, with about a $7,100,000 buffer that they can go over the cap until training camp opens, if they want to acquire players now and move out money later.
The most common name attached to the Canadiens heading into free agency is Michael Frolik, who Marc Dumont profiled yesterday as an extremely good candidate to not only replace Parenteau, but provide a significant upgrade due to his versatility.
Also mentioned has been Matt Beleskey, who Marc also looked into, and found a few glaring warning signs.
