There were a lot of thoughts around the Montreal Canadiens and their decision to waive Xavier Ouellet. Someone had to go with Noah Juulsen getting the green light to play, but again, it was the younger option made available to the rest of the league.
The appeal on Ouellet wasn’t as present as the one on Nikita Scherbak. He’s a young defenceman with nice skating technique and an eye for offence, but he was bought out last year by a team who is in a virtual rebuild. Ouellet fit nicely into the Habs defensive system and looked steady playing with Jordie Benn and unfortunately has since been passed by the likes of Mike Reilly and Brett Kulak on the priority list.
