The Montreal Canadiens have announced they inked Phil Varone to a contract. It is a one year, two-way contract so he will earn $700,000 if he plays at the NHL level and $450,000 if he is sent to the American Hockey League.
The 28 year old forward was in the Philadelphia Flyers organization last season, splitting time with the big club and their AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He scored seven points in 47 NHL games, but was excellent in the AHL, scoring 28 points in just 22 games for the Phantoms.
In 2017-18, Varone played a full season with the Phantoms and lit up the scoreboard.
