Montreal Canadiens sign David Savard to four-year contract

Defenceman David Savard has been signed by the Montreal Canadiens to a four-year contract with an average annual value of $3.5 million.

The Canadiens just played Savard’s previous team, the Tampa Bay Lightning, in the Stanley Cup Final, and Marc Bergevin must have liked what he saw from the defencemen. The right-hander had five points during Tampa Bay’s playoff run, including an assist on the only goal in the Cup-clinching Game 5.

Offence isn’t a key feature of his game, with 166 points in 611 career games.
