To prepare for the 2020-21 NHL season, teams are allowed to bring a roster of 36 skaters and an unlimited number of goaltenders to training camp, which, for the 24 teams that made it to the post-season, begins on January 3.
By the end of camp (the season is slated to start on January 13), the number will need to be whittled down to the typical 23, compliant with the $81.5 million salary cap. However, all teams will also have a “taxi squad” with a minimum of four players and a maximum of six that travels with the team.
