Lukas Vejdemo was the third Montreal Canadiens prospect to receive an entry-level contract this year. 2016 draft picks Will Bitten, and Michael Pezzetta got that part started for the prospect pool. The Habs selected Vejdemo was selected 87th overall in the 2014 draft but has played in Sweden for the last three seasons.
The 22-year-old had a career year for Djurgårdens IF with 10 goals and 12 assists in 47 games. When the initial contract extension was announced, there was no guarantee as to where Vejdemo would play the following season. However, it did prove that there is pull from the Montreal Canadiens to begin working with him.
