If the Montreal Canadiens were going to dip their toes in the free agent market, Tomas Plekanec was the obvious name. The team parted ways with the long-time centre ahead of the trade deadline acquiring Kerby Rychel, Rinat Valiev, and a second-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. The Habs later used that pick to select Jacob Olofsson 56th overall.
According to Pierre Lebrun, the wishes and priorities of Plekanec will be met at noon. It looks to be a one-year deal for the veteran, which a lot of people expected.
