The Montreal Canadiens finished 28th in the NHL standings. When you are that close to the bottom of the pile, there are usually holes to fill in your lineup. You also have the opportunity to head to the podium early in the NHL Draft.
It would be ideal if you could use your early pick to fill a pressing organizational need. The Canadiens most pressing need is at center. Their next most pressing need is on left defence. The most logical pick with their third overall selection is a right-winger.
This does not create an ideal situation for the Habs.
