Mike Condon claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Penguins

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Mike Condon was claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Condon will back up Marc-Andre Fleury as they deal with the injury to Matt Murray which was suffered at the World Cup of Hockey.

Condon was expected to be cut from the NHL team’s Opening Night roster as soon as they signed veteran goaltender Al Montoya on July 1. In pre-season action, Condon didn’t do enough to change the organization’s mind.

Condon won the backup job last preseason, by beating out incumbent Dustin Tokarski.
