On the second day of free agency, the Montreal Canadiens have added forward Mathieu Perreault to the NHL roster.
It’s a fairly inexpensive one-year, $950,000 deal that doesn’t put much of a dent in the cap space that the team will still have available from Shea Weber’s contract.
Perreault played the 2020-21 season with the Winnipeg Jets, rotating between a role at centre and the wing. Given the number of wingers the Canadiens already have, Marc Bergevin is probably expecting he’ll play down the middle and help compensate for the departure of Phillip Danault.
