It can’t always be sunshine and rainbows in the NHL. The Montreal Canadiens responded well from a disappointing 2017/18 campaign propelling themselves to be one of the best eight teams in the Eastern Conference. There were times when they held one of the top three spots in the Atlantic Division, but their five-game losing streak has changed that.
Montreal’s loss to the Carolina Hurricanes knocked them out of the second wild-card spot via leapfrog. The Habs and Hurricanes have the same number of points at 27, but the latter’s extra victory has them as the better of the two teams in the standings.
