A loss to Ottawa would be the Canadiens’ fifth straight taste of defeat – something that has not happened in the Marc Bergevin era.
Pierre Gauthier was the team’s general manager and Randy Cunneyworth was behind the bench in February, 2012, when the Canadiens dropped games to New Jersey, Dallas, Washington, Florida and Tampa Bay.
It was the second five-game losing streak of the woeful season that cost Gauthier and Cunneyworth their jobs. The first five-L run was in December.
The 2011-’12 Canadiens had also lost six straight out of the gate in October. They finished the season by losing eight of 11 en route to the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.
