But hockey’s hottest rivalry has cooled considerably in recent seasons.

And the ghosts of Maurice Richard and Hal Laycoe would be scratching their helmetless heads in contemplation of CH vs. Bs games that are almost completely devoid of the bitter intensity of yesteryear’s slugfests.

It could be that postseason hockey is needed to spark the rivalry. The Canadiens and Bruins haven’t met in the playoffs since 2014.

The Bruins were 4-1 winners last Jan. 19, their most recent visit to the Bell Centre.
