The perception of the Montreal Canadiens has been going up and down. Marc Bergevin created a lot of awe and chaos after making the decision to offer sheet Sebastian Aho (high). The Carolina Hurricanes showed no signs of wavering from a match (low), and now the rest of the league is looking to Montreal trying to figure out what went wrong (lower?).
Some are criticizing Bergevin entirely questioning why would he make an offer sheet that could be easily matched. I’m not innocent of that narrative; however, I do acknowledge the fact that Bergevin tried to improve the Montreal Canadiens using an offer sheet without having to give up too much in compensation and handcuff the team financially down the line.
