The Habs did not do very well to contain the Oilers early on, allowing them six shot attempts within the first 1:17. Within the first five minutes of the game, Connor McDavid's line had created six shot attempts of the Oilers' total eight. Ben Scrivens made a couple of key saves to keep it even while the Habs got their game going.
This would end up being key, as the Habs went on the powerplay and moved the puck around, freezing the Oilers with a lot of traffic in front of Cam Talbot.
