The Habs came out stronger to start the second period, leading the Flames in possession 6-1 in shot attempts by the first commercial timeout. The Flames started to fire back, but a lot of shots were being blocked or missing the net. Midway through the second period, the Habs had only recorded one shot on net for the period.
The Flames overtook the Habs in possession and shots on net, scoring on their seventh shot of the period after a turn over in the offensive zone by Alex Galchenyuk. The Habs were held to just four shots on net for the first sixteen minutes of the second period.
