Before July 1st, the Canadiens already boasted strong goaltending depth. With superstar Carey Price firmly entrenched as the team’s number 1 goalie, the Canadiens also had backup Mike Condon as well as top prospects Zachary Fucale and Charlie Lindgren down in the AHL.
So with all of that goaltending depth, adding another netminder did not seem to be much of a need for the Canadiens. Apparently, GM Marc Bergevin thought differently as he added veteran backup Al Montoya on a one year contract.
