Lars Eller entered the 2015-16 season as the Canadiens 2nd line left wing on a line with Alex Galchenyuk and Alexander Semin. The offensive potential of the trio fueled fan excitement and expectations were high. Unfortunately, the trio failed to truly click and were soon separated. Semin was jettisoned to the KHL and Eller failed to take the next step on offense and found himself back into his familiar role on the 3rd line.
