Years ago my sister in Ottawa sent me a news clipping from the Ottawa Citizen about mistakes on the Stanley Cup over the years, and frankly, in some cases, the engraver (there’s been a few of them) must have been either really rushed to get it done, or drunk, or hadn’t slept in days when they were doing their engraving.
Or maybe they just had this really cool and mischievous side of them.
For example, when Frank Selke was the assistant manager to Conn Smythe when the Leafs won the Cup in 1945, his title was engraved in short form as ‘ass man’.
