The Canadiens made a late trade for the second year in a row, this time trading their 2018 7th-round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers for this year’s 199th overall pick. With that pick they selected goaltender Cayden Primeau from the USHL’s Lincoln Stars. Cayden is the son of former NHL star Keith Primeau.
Despite a deep goaltending pipeline with Charlie Lindgren and Michael McNiven in it, the Canadiens decided to add another prospect to the pool. Primeau was a highly touted goaltender, with many scouts and services ranking him as early as the second round.
