Brian Foster lost his first tournament match, but that didn't stop him from becoming the WSOF lightweight tournament champion.
During his first fight, Foster (25-8) faced Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Joao Zeferino. Foster, quickly took the fight to the mat where he scrambled with his opponent Zeferino just to land in the 50/50 position. There, the Brazilian submitted Foster with a vicious heel-hook. And in just one minute and 47 seconds, Foster was out of the tournament.
Zeferino went on to put another Rousimar-Palhares-like performance by submitting jiu-jitsu black belt Jorge Patino with a heel-hook in less than 2 minutes into the semifinal bout.
