Women’s MMA pioneer Roxanne Modafferi talks legacy ahead of Invicta title fight

Some began competing in women's mixed martial arts before it was cool. Roxanne Modafferi did it before anyone even knew what the heck it was.

The women's MMA pioneer was reminded of that over the last few years. She would go to a local Las Vegas ale house to watch UFC fights featuring the likes of Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate in the main event. The sport has come a long way, especially on the women's side, since Modafferi started in 2003.

"Just to see everyone cheering for the female fighting, it's like man," Modafferi told MMA Fighting.
