UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman revealed that the UFC had almost created an interim middleweight title for Vitor Belfort to fight for.
A slew of unforeseen training injuries almost forced the UFC to create an interim title in the middleweight division, according to the 185-pound champion Chris Weidman.
Nearly on year ago on May 24th 2014, Weidman and Vitor Belfort were supposed to meet at the UFC 173 main event but once Belfort withdrew from the contest, it was Lyoto Machida who eventually replaced him, even though the first didn't occur until July after Weidman had undergone surgery on his knees.
