The UFC is in Australia this weekend where UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, the company’s first champion to represent Australia and New Zealand, takes on interim title holder Israel Adesanya, who is repping New Zealand, too (alongside Nigeria).
The headline fight is the first contest for Whittaker since his bout with Yoel Romero last June. He was supposed to face Kelvin Gastelum last November, but he was pulled from the bout hours before the show for emergency surgery to address an abdominal hernia of the intestine and a collapsed bowel. Adesanya earned his interim belt, and shot at Whittaker, with a win over Gastelum at April’s UFC 236.
