Just how big a deal is Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather in the Philippines? If a recent report from the Associated Press is anything to go by, it's huge. There are a lot of ways to measure the societal impact of Manny Pacquiao in his home country, but the latest is power, or rather electricity, and the use of it. People in the Palawan province of the Philippines are apparently being asked to make sure their appliances are turned off, wherever possible during the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight, to help avoid blackouts around the country.
Speaking on behalf of Palawan Electric Cooperative, Rante Ramos advised some 15,000 local customers to unplug refrigerators, air conditioners washing machines and electric pots:
"If it is just for the Pacquiao fight, let us just leave electric fans and TVs on," Ramos said.
