If not for the hospital staff that took care of him after his accident in June, UFC Hall-of-Famer Matt Hughes might not have survived the ordeal. On Tuesday, the 43-year-old former long-time welterweight champion went out of his way to personally thank them.
Hughes paid a visit to the HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois along with his wife, two daughters, and best friend Tony Zucca, to honor ICU nurses Megan Simpson and Ashley Hull. The two were nominated by Zucca to be given the DAISY nurse award, in which the hospital bestowed upon the two nurses for the month of October and November, respectively.
