WBA super-featherweight champion Gervonta Davis (22-0, 21 KOs) unsurprisingly ran through Panama’s Ricardo Nunez (21-3, 19 KOs) in what was a very obvious mismatch. Davis was taking on a mandatory challenger, and you can only ask the WBA as to their reasoning for giving Nunez such a high ranking with an empty record. Alas, that’s boxing.
The hometown title defense in Baltimore brought in a sell-out crowd, who cheered him on as he punished Nunez in the second round. A big left hand sent Nunez into a tailspin, and Davis went to work on the ropes. Another massive left snapped Nunez’s head back in a way that made Harvey Dock intervene to wave the fight off.
